B Vitamins

I noticed on my last labwork that my vitamin b levels are a little low. I know this is problematic for diabetics and I am taking a Super B Complex daily. Apparently, it's not good enough. I was using podiapn, but my ins dis-allowed it, saying I could get this otc, but the otc isn't working as well. My legs look like someone beat me with a stick and this is because of the b deficiency. I will be bringing this up at my next appt, but that's still a month out. Any suggestions to help with this?

suecsdy, I have to take two multi vitamin with minerals everyday of my life due to a gastro bypass surgery I had ( I have lost 90 lbs.) I also have to take vit. B-1 & vit. B- 12, vit. D3 and calcium. The B-12 is sublingual, under the tongue. These I take separate from the multi. vit. They help me a lot with my emotions and stress. I was told not to take B complex vits., because they aren't very effective. My Dr. said my blood tests showed I had too much vit. B. and not enough vit. A . I take that too. Maybe taking these two supplements of B-1 & B-12, may work better for you. Although I would ask your Dr. first. I also take magnesium for my pain. It helps in conjunction with the Percocet that I take. I also take Gabapentin, which helps me with my nerve pain. I hope this helps you.

I take a B vitamin that I get over the counter everyday and my last blood test showed an increase. The pharmacist told me which brand to get. Insurance is not going to pay for otc mds.

I was getting podiapn on prescription and it is still available; My ins just decided not to cover it. What brand do you use?

I was also low on my B 12 and other B vitamins on my blood test. The Doctor suggested I get B12 injections which I did. She explained to me that B was not readily absorbed by the body if other things were lacking in your body, and that diabetes drugs also deplete your reserves. You can't get B12 out of plants and must eat meats, eggs and dairy in order to get it. As we grow older most people become deficient in B also because it take a certain acid in the body to absorb it. This acid is reduced by age among other things. I felt much better a while after the B12 injections, which is the quickest way to get your B levels back up.

In 2010, I suffered a clinical depresion because of low vitamin B12 levels. I have been taking a sublingual B12 supplement ever since. Last year, my podiatrist suggested I should also take 100 mg of vitamin B6 (50 mg 2x/day), so, I've been doing that as well. We're also likely to have a Vitamin D deficiency (yup, taking 2000 iu/day of that and my doctor periodically checks my levels. Of course, these supplements are all OTC. Hoping you and your doc can get to the bottom of this and find a solution.

I also take D and a multi-vitamin. My D level is good. My super B has B-12, B6, and folic acid.
