cake, cookie, ice cream … no problem. I've been avoiding those for years.
what I seem to be incapable of resisting is fruit on the tree. there is nothing that tastes as good as fruit directly off the tree … nothing!
it's cherry season and we have three cherry trees in our backyard orchard. it is impossible for me to walk past a tree without grabbing a handful. fortunately, they're almost done bearing … but the peaches are looking awesome this year.

Oh the joys of visiting relatives in the country. Getting up, eating breakfast then climbing my Great Aunts huge plum tree and eating them with the dew still on them. Then a visit to the grape arbor for some Concord Grapes.

My sister and I stayed with our aunt for a week and we visited her Green Apple Tree, Red Apple Tree, Wild Cherry Tree, the Peach Tree, Blackberry and Raspberry patch every day.

My mom would make Applesauce and different fruit jellies. We always had fruit in the house. Now I am allergic to any fruit with a pit. SMH.

Hey Steve, I know fruit has to be eaten in moderation. Having said that, I am also impressed with anyone who appreciates fruit. I like vegetables but fruit not so much. So I have to kind of discipline myself to make sure I include it in my diet. It's interesting how we all have such divergent dietary habits, right?

There is nothing like picking a fresh cucumber, peeling it and putting it in a container with salt, pepper and vinegar. Great on a hot summer day.

LOL....that is a conundrum for sure. This time of year, fruit makes a larger appearance in my diet as well. Just got some beautiful cherries and a small water melon last week. You know the drill....add them to your count and cut out something else. Fresh fruits are good for you both in body and mind. Enjoy. The season is short. The other option is to tie your hands to your sides as you go on your walks or redirect your walks....hmmmm. I say pick a few.

Funny that we all have our own simply irresistible. I can do without fruit and a lot of things. But put me in front of tree nuts or occasionally peanuts or all natural peanut butter, and watch out! Simply irresistible. Hope it works out for you and you can limit the fresh cherries and other fruits!

Cherry season is tough for me! I bought a bag this weekend but made sure to put them out where the whole crowd could indulge. It kept me to a couple of handfuls. Cakes and cookies, though, are totally my Achilles heel.

The key is to treat fruit as a sweet “treat” and eat it only in moderation. As long as you keep your total carbohydrate intake low, there’s no reason why fruits can’t be a part of a healthy LCHF diet.

Does the naturally occurring sugar in fruit affect bg as much as added sugar? Good question. It depends on who you talk to. I have heard doctors and diabetics alike say the naturally occurring sugar is okay. While others say "sugar is sugar, regardless of how it gets there". I tend to lean toward the sugar is sugar one myself. But I don't see where having an orange or apple or handful of cherries each day would really hurt anything. Most days I will have an apple or an orange as I believe the affect on readings is negligible. Of course, depending on what particular diet you are following even that could be a problem.
Most deserts I have no problem leaving off the menu. Although there is two in particular I won't compromise on. Lemon lush and hot fudge sundaes. Thankfully lemon lush isn't made even once a year, but when it is… I will have the sundae about three- four times per year.
As always, we all handle it as to our current situation.

while all "sugars" are not created equal (there is sucrose, fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, and galactose) but the body's response to a particular sugar is the same regardless of the "packaging". the difference is in the other nutrients that are available in the "package".

Fruits contain mostly fructose and some sucrose. Fructose is not absorbed directly into the blood stream like other sugars but is sent to the liver to be processed which should give a delayed spike. Together with the fiber in raw fruits one should be able to tolerate them in moderation as a snack.

the amount of fructose varies widely by fruit … in fact, many fruits contain less fructose than (or about the same as) common table sugar (sucrose)
up to 1/2 of the fructose can be converted to glucose for immediate use and a good portion (around 20%) serves to refuel our glycogen stores for later conversion to glucose … so while you won't pay the full price immediately, you will eventually have to pay the piper
but yes … portion control is always key and the nutrient values of most fruits are significant.

On the rare occasion I eat fruit it is usually blackberries or raspberries. They are easy to measure in 1/2 or 3/4 cup and don't seem to impact my BG quite as much as other fruits.

I eat a small amount of fresh fruit every day, in very small quantity. If I limit it to a small amount and have it early in the day, I seem to do OK. I love fruit and wish I could have more but…no can do.

Fearful of fruit is what I am. Maybe a few berries once in a great while and thats it!
Saw my summer fave, white flesh nectarines in the store today and felt very sad to pass them up.
Im in the South Bay area of So Cal, very few local farms but we do have several local farmer's markets that I frequently check out.
Probably my feat of fruit is overblown.

Before we moved permanently to Florida, we lived in Vermont. There was a peach tree on our property and, the year we moved in, I remeber eating one of the tree-ripened peaches. The flavor exploded in my mouth…it was soooooo GOOD! Freshly pulled carrots also have a much brighter taste! My mouth is watering, just remembering…

… and a couple I'm forgetting
getting the grounds ready for the raised beds for the veggies so next year we'll be picking our salads

The fresh strawberries we had up north were much more flavorful than the Florida/California berries that we get in the grocery store. The same goes for the wild blueberries we'd pick up north. Fresh is definitely best! Oh, And I remember apple-picking in Vermont. We came across some wild grapes growing in the orchard and brought home several bags of those. Best grape jam I've ever made!

almost 90% of the strawberries grown in the US are grown in California. where I live you can't go more than several miles and not see a strawberry farm (and they all sell their crops right there). there are several large farms in walking distance from my house.
farm fresh is always better than store bought.
easy access to so much locally grown produce is one of many reasons I love living in California
